The NGO organizing committee for the UN 80th Anniversary Celebrations, along with UN ambassadors, dignitaries, NGO leaders, scientists, and others from five continents, gathered at the UN headquarters to launch the “Sustainable Development of Our Planet: Exemplary Models” selection campaign and form an organizing committee.

Launch of the Global Sustainable “Earth Home” Exemplary Initiative under the United Nations 80th Anniversary
Jianmen Shu Road (Cuiyun Corridor), Guangyuan, Sichuan, China Awarded
“Outstanding Global Sustainable Earth Home Demonstration Zone”
On the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations, and in support of advancing the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promoting Harmony with Nature, and implementing the Pact for the Future and other global strategic objectives, the World Harmony Foundation (WHF)—a Major Group Non-Governmental Organization of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)—has officially launched the international initiative “Building Our Shared Earth Home and Establishing Exemplars of Harmony Between Humanity and Nature.”
This initiative brings together an International Selection Committee composed of former senior United Nations officials, internationally renowned academicians in ecology and environmental sciences, authoritative experts in atmospheric, water, and soil sciences, as well as representatives from international environmental NGOs and allied organizations. The Committee plans to annually select outstanding exemplary models of ecological protection and green development from the world’s five continents, establishing globally recognized benchmarks for sustainable development.
The 2025 evaluation cycle has now entered its final stage. International experts from all five continents—representing diverse cultural backgrounds—conducted systematic and rigorous assessments of dozens of candidate cities and regions. It is with great distinction that Jianmen Shu Road (Cuiyun Corridor), Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province, China, emerged as the first selected exemplar.
In recognition of its innovative ecological protection systems, outstanding conservation of cultural heritage, and sustainable utilization practices, Jianmen Shu Road (Cuiyun Corridor) has been officially awarded the Global Sustainable “Earth Home” Exemplary Award by the NGO Organizing Committee of the United Nations 80th Anniversary Celebrations. This honor establishes a benchmark and model for cities, towns, and scenic areas across China in implementing United Nations goals and global sustainability commitments.
The Global Sustainable “Earth Home” Exemplary Award is jointly determined by a panel of senior international judges, many of whom possess several decades of professional experience within the United Nations NGO system, granting the award a high level of international authority and symbolic significance.
For many years, Guangyuan City has actively implemented United Nations declarations and initiatives related to sustainable development and harmony between humanity and the Earth, achieving remarkable outcomes in ecological civilization nature conservation, and sustainable tourism development.
Building upon unique ecological governance practices dating back to China’s Ming Dynasty—such as the historic systems of “official–civilian joint prohibition of tree felling” and “tree handover with official seals”—Guangyuan has innovatively introduced a comprehensive ancient cypress protection framework. This includes an official handover mechanism upon leadership transition, “one tree, one archive” registration, “one tree, one guardian” daily patrols, and “one tree, one plan” scientific rescue measures, forming a full-chain, systematic, and sustainable protection model.
Jianmen Shu Road (Cuiyun Corridor) represents a great historical practice of large-scale ecological conservation and road greening in ancient China, and stands as an exemplary fusion of human cultivation and natural growth. Its enduring philosophy—“roads and trees coexisting,” “humanity and heaven in harmony,” and “unity of nature and humanity”—is highly aligned with the core principles of the Global Sustainable “Earth Home” Exemplary Award. It is widely recognized as one of the most intact and successfully protected millennium-old ancient road heritage sites in the world.
Practical experience has fully demonstrated that the concepts of Ecological Civilization and a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind not only promote balanced regional development, but also provide replicable and scalable pathways for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Drawing upon the legacy of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, Agenda 21, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted in 2015, Jianmen Shu Road (Cuiyun Corridor) has taken a pioneering role in advancing sustainable development practices, demonstrating distinctive and trailblazing significance in ecological protection and ecological civilization development.
